Don’s Kawaihae Race

Come and join us in honoring Don Maxwell in a race to Kawaihae

Our long distance cruise will look a different than in the past:
This year we will sail up to Makalawena in flotilla fashion, anchor and have lunch. We will hang out swimming and snorkeling for the day. We have permission for 3 boats to moor overnight in Kawaihae small boat harbor. Those three boats will continue to Kawaihae while the rest head back to Honokohau harbor.
Here is the tentative Itinerary
May 25
- Skippers meeting 8:00am at club house
- Sailors from Honokohau Harbor depart approximately 9 am.
- Stop in for lunch at Makalawena with the KSC flotilla
- Kawaihae boats pull up anchor and make way north
- The rest of KSC makes their way back to Honokohau
- Land Support arrives at Kawaihae small boat harbor around 3 pm and sets up small tent, tables, chairs and preps landing areas and dinner
- Sailors arrive in Kawaihae small boat harbor around 4 – 5 pm
May 26
- Breakfast and coffee at sunup
- Meet with Ocean Defenders Alliance and volunteers at 9 am and Stage cleaning area for the ODA blue zone (Surf Park next door)
- Cleaning up rubbish with ODA 10 am – noon
- Sailors go back to Kawaihae Small boat harbor and rest up for the moonlight sail back
- Approximately 6 pm – Land Support breaks down the tent area, tables, chairs etc. takes all trash and departs
- Sailors start their journey back to Honokohau Harbor under sunset/moonlight sail back
- Tune into Channel 78 while sailing.
